Uniform Day

Northern Stars will be hosting a Uniform Day on Sunday 25th February 2.30-4.30pm at Warwick Stadium, home of the Northern Stars.

For new players, or existing players who need new playing uniform or want to stock up on new merchandise, this will be one of your only opportunities to try on and order any of the compulsory uniform and/or optional merchandise for 2018.

Plenty of the committee will be down there helping out so this is a great opportunity to come down, meet all of us and ask any questions you might have before WAVL Trials begin the following Monday/Tuesday! We also recommend bringing down your registration packs as this is a great time to fill them out and hand them in.

If you are unable to attend this Uniform Day – don’t panic! We will have all of the uniform gear available to try on and order on Wednesday 28th February 7-8.30pm at Prendiville Catholic College (where trials are being held). If you are unable to make either of these sessions please contact enquiries@northernstarsvolleyball.com

We look forward to seeing you there!

Men’s Super League Coach Announcement 2018

Northern Stars is proud to announce the coaching group for our Men’s Super League squad for the 2018 WAVL season. Once again Ben Gray will take charge of the Super League 1 men and be the head coach for all men’s teams. Gray will oversee the development of players up and down the ranks and is an experience coach who previously has coached the SL1 men to finals and is a well accomplished player himself. As Gray is expecting the birth of his first child prior to the season Tom Park has stepped in as assistant to ease the workload through this time. Park is a former WAVL Division 2 winning coach and well respected within the playing group. Parks experience and knowledge of the game will be invaluable for the squad. Mubin Syed will be charged with taking the SL2 men’s team to the finals again in 2018. Having previously played in this team Syed will be looking to go one better than 2017 after falling agonisingly short in the grand final. Rianne Parker will again coach the SL3 men’s team. Her track record with this team is exceptional, coaching them to victory in 2016 and to the finals again in 2017 as well as developing some stars of the future

Northern Stars would like to thank all applicants for their expressions of interest and will soon be announcing our Super League Reserve and PVL coach appointments

Women’s Super League Coach Announcement 2018

Northern Stars is proud to announce the coaching group for our Women’s Super League squad for the 2018 WAVL season. Mark Van Winsen continues as head coach of the womens program and also the Super League 1 women’s coach. Under Van Winsen in 2017 the team achieved many of its goals and looks set for a strong push to the finals in 2018. Van Winsen’s coaching and playing prowess needs no introduction and he will be a strong leader for a developing group of players. Ryan Penno has been selected as the Super League 2 coach for this season. 2017 was his first year as a coach and an exceptional one at that, taking out our 2017 coach of the year after doing a stellar job of guiding his SL3 women’s team into the finals. Lachlan Shakeshaft is the SL3 women’s coach for the 2018 season after coaching an open division team in 2017. Shakeshaft has an impressive resume, having coached at Perth Modern in Junior League, WAVL and school tournaments for several years. His eye for technique and analysis of the game will help push the SL3 players in their pursuit of another finals appearance

Northern Stars would like to thank all applicants for their expressions of interest and will soon be announcing our Super League Reserve and PVL coach appointments

2018 Trials Announcement

Northern Stars Volleyball Club is very excited to announce some changes to our club system which we will be unveiling in readiness for the 2018 season. In previous years our team setup has been for players to be graded into their divisions and remained in these teams for the duration of the season. For 2018, we are transitioning to a squad setup, where the Super League 1, 2 & 3 teams will train together as a squad of 30 players. Team selection will occur each week and players can be moved around from team to team within the squad. This move to a more professional setup will give coaches the flexibility to manage game time and development based on performance and an individual player or teams’ needs. Early indications from our head coaches is that they feel this greater flexibility will see the development of junior players accelerate and the performance of senior players lift and provides a very exciting platform with which to launch our 2018 WAVL campaigns from

Northern Stars is very excited to take this step and as a result has elected to change the way trials and grading are performed to reflect the new squad setup. For 2018, we have set up two sets of trials; each set consists of 3 nights spread over 3 weeks:

  • The first 3 trial nights are the WAVL SL1 & SL2 Squad trials and will involve high performance evaluation. It is recommended for players who are involved in VWA state teams, have previously played in Super League 1, 2 or 3 or feel they can qualify for SL 1 or 2 to trial during these nights. 20 players will be selected from this set of trials to go into the SL Squad.
  • The second set of 3 trial nights are for players who may not have been selected at the initial trials and/or are looking to play in Super League 3, Super League Reserves, PVL or Junior League. 10 players from this set of trials will be selected for the Super League Squad and the remainder of players will be graded into the Reserves, PVL & Junior League teams as required.

Northern Stars is also very aware that many players have obligations with state beach trials / training. As such, NSVC has contacted VWA in regards to making these dates free for players to attend trials during the first week of grading on 7 or 8 February.

With the changes that have been made as well as wealth of coaching experience throughout the squads and teams, Northern Stars feel that we are well placed to see strong personal and team development of players throughout 2018.

For more information about trials nights, please see our Trial Advice form as well as trials and selection policies which are available at www.northernstarsvolleyball.com. For any further questions regarding trials or other topics please contact enquiries@northernstarsvolleyball.com.
